SOAR Together Recognizes International Loneliness Awareness Week June 10-16

SOAR Together invites residents to a variety of events recognizing Loneliness Awareness Week June 10-16th across Fairfield County as we promote this year’s engaging theme of “Random Acts of Connection.” SOAR Together’s mission is to help reduce loneliness and social isolation by bringing people together, one positive connection at a time. Highlights include:
Monday, June 10th - Chatty Bench launch at Mark Twain Library at 10am in West Redding with Rep. Anne Hughes. Chatty Benches are a great way of encouraging people to connect with others. Their essence is to help promote impromptu social engagements facilitated by design and placement. Chatty Benches facilitate conversations and connections that can uplift and change the outcome of someone’s day.
Tuesday, June 11th - Flower Power event at William Pitt Realty in New Canaan at 1:30pm where attendees will create bouquets for those in their lives who need an uplift as well as gift to older adults in the community.
Wednesday, June 12th – Buddy Bench launch at Wakeman Boys & Girls Southport Clubhouse at 2pm, with the same essence as Chatty Benches though for our younger generation.
Wednesday, June 12th - Launch of partnership with Community Food Rescue with Flower Power for seniors at Wooster Manor in Danbury.
Thursday, June 13th – Join fellow community members 12-4pm at Lounsbury House for Community Flower Power as we make flower bouquets to uplift others while spending time together! This event is generously hosted by Lounsbury House and supported by Ridgefield Rotary, Fairfield County Bank and the Wadsworth Lewis Fund.
Sunday, June 16th – Join us for our weekly SOAR Strolls at Sherwood Island at 10am as we walk, talk, laugh, and breathe in the ocean air, sparking random acts of connection throughout this week and beyond.
“We are in the midst of an unprecedented time of reported loneliness and social isolation, and I have witnessed the eradicating of this pain and lack of connection since we delivered the first Flower Power arrangements and hosted our first Social Seats events,” says SOAR Founder Ginger Smith. “I have watched, witnessed, and felt the sparks flying, the smiles generated, the changed outcomes in those we have been blessed enough to spend time with through our programs and flower deliveries. Our intention is to touch more lives this week, promote connection, and keep moving the social needle in the right direction.”
