The Ridgefield High School PTSA is organizing an event for the 40th time - the annual RHS Post Grad Party. It will be held at the Ridgefield Recreation Center on the night of graduation (June 14, 2024) to provide a safe way for the Class of 2024 to celebrate their huge milestone together.
The RHS Post Grad event was started in Ridgefield following the tragic death of a graduate in 1983 as a result of a drunk driver, who was also a fellow graduate, leaving a party hosted by the father of another fellow graduate. The driver died by suicide three years later. What should have been a day of joyful celebration brought lasting grief to the Ridgefield community instead.
The Post Grad event is the final celebration for graduating seniors, aimed at preventing any further unnecessary tragedies.
Matthew W. Ely, brother of the 1983 student who was killed, said, “From the brother who lost his brother on June 13,1983, please support this awesome cause. If we can keep all the seniors safe on grad night that means there is one less hole in this universe that will never be replaced. One life lost results in many, many lives changed forever, never to be the same. Please do not drive under the influence and give generously to the POST GRAD PARTY!”
The event is held at the Ridgefield Recreation Center from 10:00 pm to 3:30 am on the night of graduation, Friday, June 14, 2024. The entire center is transformed to match the event's theme. There will be various games to entertain everyone, including poker, craps, carnival-style games, inflatables, VR, Nintendo Switch tournaments, photo booths, and cornhole. Additionally, there will be a DJ and plenty of food donated from local eateries such as Chez Leonard, Planet Pizza, Genoa Deli & Pizza, and Dunkin’ Donuts.
Throughout the night, the most exciting part is the raffle prizes! There are three rounds of raffle prizes, and a final grand prize round for all graduates in attendance. Each raffle round has over 30 prizes, and they are worth winning! The volunteer committee works tirelessly to secure the hottest items that the graduates are looking for in the next chapter of their lives. These items include an "Everything You Need for the Dorm Room" basket, iWatches, mini-fridges, scooters, bicycles, and much more! Over 90% of the graduating class attends each year, and the rest wish they had!
The post-grad event is FREE for all RHS graduates. That's right; the graduates attend for free. Graduates and parents only need to sign a waiver, which can be found at https://www.rhspostgrad.com.
Clearly, planning an awesome event of this magnitude is not cheap, so the organizers must have community support with donations and volunteers to keep the party going! To see how you can get involved or support this event, please go to https://www.rhspostgad.com.
