Stamford Senior Center To Honor Donna Spellman & Roberta Eichler

The Stamford Senior Center will honor two community leaders at its annual ‘Lives Blossom’ fundraising event on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Donna Spellman, Executive Director of River House Adult Day Center, and Stamford Senior Center Board Member Roberta Eichler will take the stage as the organization pays tribute to their efforts to serve seniors in our community.
Donna Spellman has led River House, an adult day care and healthcare facility in Greenwich, CT that serves the Greenwich and Stamford community for the past seven years. Attendees come to the center to participate in activities, socialize and receive compassionate care. The organization is a safe haven for caregivers, knowing that healthcare is provided to loved ones while their quality of life is improved.
“To be able to do the kind of work where you make a real difference in people’s lives is very humbling. I don’t see it as work,” said Spellman. “People come to River House and magic happens, because people are stimulated, and they meet friends, and like the Stamford Senior Center, people have purpose; a reason to get up in the morning.”
Roberta Eichler, of Stamford, CT, joined the Stamford Senior Center Board of Directors in 2012, after retiring from the Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County, where she served as Executive Director for 21 years. There, the Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Youth Scholarship was established, managed today by the United Way of Western Connecticut. Eichler held prior positions as Chapter Director for the American Heart Association and began her career as a Kindergarten teacher.
“The Stamford Senior Center is a place for everyone, a welcoming environment with lively activities; a good place to meet people and socialize,” said Eichler. “It also solves community problems, providing transport to a food pantry for those that are food insecure and vouchers for bus travel for those who need it. It’s an important place and I’m eager to help the organization grow.”
The Lives Blossom event raises critical funds for the Stamford Senior Center’s wide array of active and engaging programing. This enjoyable evening offers networking, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a lively silent auction to support the nearly 900 seniors who depend upon the organization.
“We are thrilled to honor Donna and Roberta for their dedication to improving the lives of seniors in our area,” said Christina Crain, Executive Director of the Stamford Senior Center. “Their work helps older adults to live independently and remain active members of the community. They are enriching lives and creating positive ripple effects across the entire region.”
