Weekend Photo from Valencia Luncheria

Everyone has a go-to place for good food in their town. Being a Norwalk local, I love Valencia Luncheria. While I could rave about the entire menu, I have one particular favorite, any of their arepas. OK, so I lied, the empanadas are great too. Two favorites. Sorry, choosing is difficult!

An arepa is a classic Venezuelan food staple, and Valencia's are some of the area's best, if not the best. These deep fried corn cake, half sandwich creations are slit down the middle and can be stuffed with just about anything.

If you stop at Valencia you will have your hands full trying to decide which flavor combination you should go for. I try to order a different one each time I visit, although sometimes I'm guilty of failing and going for a repeat arepa. This time I succeeded and ordered the "Chef" arepa; packed full of freshly sliced steak, caramelized onions, cheese, and jalapeno sauce. This may be my new favorite arepa. I really got into the juicy steak and loved the spicy, but not overwhelming spice of the jalapeno. It was very much like eating a cheesesteak, Venezuelan style.

If you don't know about Valencia yet, it's time to get educated.
