Adam Strand isn’t depressed. He’s just bored. So he kills himself—39 times. But no matter the method, he can’t seem to stay dead; he awakes after each suicide alive and physically unharmed, more determined to succeed. But when his self-absorbed path is diverted, Adam realizes that life is an ever-expanding web of impact and forged connections, and that nothing—not even death—can sever those bonds.

Author Gregory Galloway will speak about his teen novel,“The 39 Deaths of Adam Strand,” on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westport Library’s McManus Room. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the program, which is free and open to the public.

"Galloway offers a riveting second novel that explores the issue of suicide with a philosophical, never sensational, approach, inviting considerations of existentialism and nihilism … Galloway's book requires careful reading of the issues it addresses, but the effort is well worth it," says Booklist.

Galloway is the author of the Alex award-winning novel “As Simple As Snow” and the short story collection “Careful & Other Stories.“ He holds an M.A. from the University of Iowa and an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
