Friday Flix: My Favorite 2013 Summer Movies

I saw a bunch of movies this summer and since everyone else is releasing their favorites, I will too.

Intro = Done.

Here are my top five summer films!

5. “Man of Steel”

Superman fans will never be satisfied with any try at feature film but this was as close to “really good” as any of the movies have ever been. Certainly better than any of the Christopher Reeve portrayals and wiped most of the Brandon Routh taste out of our mouths. The best part about this year’s coming of age version…In 2015 we get to see Batman and Superman on screen together.

4. “Iron Man 3”

The first one was my favorite but the third installment was right there. We got to see Iron Man minus the suit for most of the movie and THAT was cool. Sometimes a superhero is a superhero because of who is he as a person, not because of what they can do. Tony Stark had to use his mind and that’s why it was great.

3. “World War Z”

If there was ever a zombie apocalypse, it would look like “World War Z.” At least I think so.

2. “Star Trek Into Darkness”

Better than the first? Yes. Hardcore fans may not like the way Khan was introduced but I appreciated the fresh take. J.J. Abrams is doing cool things with this series. Cannot wait for more!

1. “Before Midnight”

The best reviewed movie of the year was this romantic comedy/drama. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy give us these characters once every 10 years and the writing, chemistry, and acting is off the charts. Awards looming? Damn, they certainly deserve it after three terrific films.
