Dr. Joseph Agris Talks Tummy Tucks, Medical Missions, and Osama bin Laden at Y's Men of Westport/Weston on Oct. 3

Dr. Joseph Agris will speak about his experiences on medical missions around the globe at Y's Men of Westport/Weston, where he will be the featured speaker at its Oct. 3 meeting at the Unitarian Church of Westport (10 Lyons Plain Rd.).
Dr. Agris, M.D., D.D.S, F.A.C.S, is a cosmetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgeon at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. His talk will cover his work treating patients, largely children with birth defects and disfigurements from violence, and how several such missions to Pakistan led to a series of meetings with Osama bin Laden, the last only shortly before bin Laden's death.
After completing his medical and dental training in 1969, Dr. Agris was drafted and sent to practice at a U.S. Navy hospital, gaining much valuable experience in a hurry. In 1975 he joined the Texas Medical Center in Houston and two years later, he began to join four medical missions a year that have covered the globe and earned Dr. Agris the sobriquet "Dr. Angel" from thankful patients and their families. It was several such missions in Pakistan in the early 2000s that resulted in Dr. Agris's search for and meeting with bin Laden, described in his recently published book "Tears on the Sand."
The Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of semi-retired and retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning, and community service.
