Holiday Fun at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center

There are two really fun holiday exhibits at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center in Stamford, CT that are worth a visit.

The first is sure to get you in the holiday spirit as it showcases some amazing gingerbread houses made by local caterers and bakers.  It is the third annual Visions of Gingerbread exhibit, where you can see some amazing gingerbread architecture on display.  All the gingerbread houses consist entirely of edible materials and they are quite a sight to see.  The gingerbread exhibit runs through December 18th.  Don't forget to cast your vote for the "fan favorite" award.

Next door to the gingerbread house exhibit is another fun exhibit for kids entitled All Aboard with Bill Probert and Friends.  Running until January 2d, this 365 square-foot display features charming villages, airports, trains and much more, all created from Lego bricks.  Bill Probert partnered with members of NELUG (New England Lego Users Group) and I LUG NY (New York Tri-State Area Lego Users Group) to create this display that fills the Museum's entire Leonhardt Gallery.

While visiting the Stamford Museum, take a walk over to the 10-acre Heckscher Farm and see all the wonderful animals on display, including the river otter exhibit.  Make sure you check out the pig pen, which has been carefully replicated as one of the gingerbread house entries!

If you visit on a Sunday, be sure to check out the Sunday Explorers Drop-in Program at the Overbrook Nature Center, (11:00am-3:00pm) where kids can enjoy hands-on interactive exploration of many of the museums favorite features.  All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hours for the gingerbread house and Lego exhibits are Monday-Saturday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, Sunday, 11:00am-5:00pm.  Heckscher Farm is open daily from 9:00am-4:00pm in the winter months.  Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $6 for students (age 18+) and $5 for children ages 4-17.  Members and children 3 and under are free.
