
The Parks and Recreation Department and VFW announced today that the Grand Marshal for the 2024 Memorial Day Parade and Services will be Charles P. Lamb.
Charles Perry Lamb Jr. was born in Springfield, IL in 1928. He joined the Navy in 1946 at age 17 as part of the Naval Aviation College Program. In 1948 he was sent to Pensacola Naval Air Station where he officially became midshipman and started ground school. In March of 1950, at age 21, he was designated by the Naval Air Training Command as a Naval Aviator. Eventually, he amassed over 2000 hours of flight time, earning 2 medals, each representing 20 aerial combat missions during the Korean War, while rising to the rank of Navy Lieutenant.
The Westport Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024. Beginning at 9:00 AM, the parade route starts on Riverside Avenue to Post Road East to Myrtle Avenue to Main Street to Parker Harding Plaza. The Memorial Day Program will begin immediately after the Parade on Veterans Green. In case of rain, the program will be held in the Town Hall Auditorium beginning at 10:30 am.
