The Mighty Mites of Wilton Blue 3rd grade beat Fairfield!

Wilton 3rd Grade Blue

Wilton (15) – Fairfield (12)

The Mighty Mites of Wilton Blue 3rd grade continued their road trip this week going Fairfield Ludlowe field beating the Fairfield Wildcats 15-12. Wilton started the game with the ball and put together and 8 play scoring drive with key runs by Tommy McKiernan and Spencer Liston and great blocking by Quinn Stengrim, Andrew Kress, Xander Petrides, and Jake Enman. Wilton scored on a 5 yard run by Christopher Capone with a good block by Luke Totten. After being penalized for holding and having the ball moved back to the 15 yard line, Wilton converted the 2pt conversion on a Capone misdirection run. On the next series Wilton's defense came out strong and set the tone with several tackles by Petrides, Matthew Dooley and Owen Rosen. However, Fairfield broke one on a 25 yard misdirection play that would have been a touchdown if not for an open field tackle by Petrides. Several plays later Fairfield was able to convert but came up short on the 2 point conversion. Wilton then put together another long drive which stalled on the Fairfield 15 yard line. Wilton's defense stopped Fairfield with good tackles by Justin Lewis, Connor Sweeney and Petrides. The half end 8-6.

Fairfield started the second half with the ball but was unable to capitalize because of solid defensive line play by Oliver Ward, Merrick Snyder, Jackson Kreter and a huge sack by Andrew Kress. Five plays later Spencer Liston was able to score on a 22 yard run, turning what looked like a loss of yardage into a touchdown. Acosta-Rua then added the 1 point after on a 3 yard run. Fairfield then took the ball and scored their second touchdown of the game as a result of several penalties and one nice run. Fairfield again was stopped on the point after, this time by Oliver Ward blasting into the backfield and blowing up the play and a resulting Wilton gang tackle.

Although Wilton tried to put another drive together and run out the clock they were forced to punt the ball to Fairfield with several minutes left in the game. Two big tackles by Kress and a game ending sack by Cole Silvia sealed the game.
