July brings Cuyler Remick to the Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence program. Cuyler's artistic practice is a response to fragments of experience and the physical materials he interacts with while working on a piece. His work is anchored to fundamental painting, drawing, and collage elements such as surface, cutting, joining, and paint. His pieces develop as he responds with various sequences of operations such as combine, spice, overlay, trace, stencil, fold, as well as various paint application methods. The result creates the next problem space that he can react to and can even serve as a component of an existing or new piece. His future goal is to keep the decision-making he uses straightforward while increasing the intellectual and visual sophistication of the outcome.
Weir Farm's Artist-in-Residence program (AIR) selects twelve artists to live and work at Weir Farm each year. To date, 192 artists from throughout the U.S., as well as Tunisia, Germany, Australia, India and the Netherlands have participated in the AIR program. Visual artists apply for one month residencies in all media and diverse artistic points of view from traditional to experimental.
