The National Weather Service has issued an update to Winter Storm Jonas in our area. The biggest concern continues to be coastal flooding as the tides are already at astronomically high levels.
Most of the weather models are now consistent with their predictions, and the heaviest snowfall should be over by 6pm this evening in the NY/CT area.
Very heavy snow has occurred already to our south with a foot of snow on Long Island thus far.
The updates are as follows:
- Snow: Increased Amounts Area Wide; Heavy snow through the day.
- Winter Storm Watch Upgraded to Winter Storm Warning for Rockland and Westchester Counties NY, Coastal CT, and Northern New London County
- Winter Storm Watch Changed to Winter Weather Advisory for Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven and Northern Middlesex Counties, CT
- Coastal Flood Warning for Southwest CT and Tidal Portions of NE NJ this morning. Coastal Flood Advisory for Eastern LI for this morning High Tides. Coastal Flood Warnings downgraded to advisory for SW CT…Westchester and Bronx for this eve. Coastal Flood Advisory cancelled for SE CT this eve.
- Tide Departures of 2 to 4 feet above astronomical high tides will cause up to 2 feet, and locally up to 3 feet of inundation above ground level in traditionally vulnerable locales.
