Wakeman Town Farm, 134 Cross Highway, Westport
Bring the whole family down to Wakeman Town Farm for a fun day at the farm to kick off the spring season! (Rain or shine.) This is Wakeman Town Farm’s traditional spring kickoff event, featuring a variety of activities for all ages, with food, crafts, games, tours, talks, animal adventures, sheep shearing and culminating with a traditional Maypole Dance. Highlights include:
1pm and 2:15 p.m.
-Kid’s Activities, such as build a nest warmer, paint a bird house, learn about keeping backyard chickens, and plant a seed in paper pots. (Some activities may include an additional charge for materials).
-Tick Talk: What you need to know about ticks and Lyme Disease with Karen Thompson, CT-based tick researcher and Staples High School science teacher.
-The Butterfly Garden: Q&A with Alice Ely, expert on building and maintaining a garden to attract butterflies and create butterfly way stations on your property.
-Garden Tours and Meet the Animals (rabbits, chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, alpacas and bees).
2:15 - 3 p.m.
Sheep Shearing Demonstration and Yarn Spinning Demonstration
3:15 to 4 p.m.
Maypole Dance, a time-honored tradition, where families tie ribbons around the Maypole to the live music by professional caller Bill Fischer.
