On September 12th, 4-5 p.m., Dr. Joe Utterback will perform at WEPCO, 48 New Canaan Road in Wilton

Selections from this special benefit concert will include musical favorites from Broadway, jazz, the greatest movie love songs of all time, and Dr. Joe’s “Elegy for 9/11.” Dr. Joe wrote this commemorative piece as a musical response to that terrible event and has been performing it almost every year on September 11th at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. He will perform his solo version of the piece for the Wilton audience to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11. When asked about performing in Wilton again after several postponements because of the pandemic, Dr. Joe responded, “It is my supreme pleasure to return to the stage in Wilton and the Stay at Home in Wilton audience because it has always been an important and enjoyable group to play for.”

Dr. Joe has been a compelling artist on the American jazz scene for more than 50 years. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Kansas. Influenced by Gospel Music and impressionistic piano traditions, Dr. Joe has published over 400 compositions reflecting the energy, color and moods of his improvisations. He has taught for over 20 years at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and serves as Director of Music/Organist at the First Congregational Church in Stratford.
