The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.
The CT arts and culture scene is poppin’ this weekend with art in the garden, the gallery, the library… on the stage, the street, and even in the sky! There’s kite flying, festivals, bursting tulip gardens, ukulele, and hip hop on violin. There’s Broadway and dance and Martina McBride. Colorblends House & Garden & URSA Gallery’s Ephemeral Utopia Exhibit in Bridgeport
Through May 8th
Featuring a half-acre ‘idea garden’ bursting with 50,000 spring bulb flowers of various types, all blooming in sequence to create an ever-changing display over a six week period. This event is a collaboration of Bridgeport-based Colorblends Wholesale Flowerbulbs and distinguished Dutch garden designer Jacqueline van der Kloet, and it includes an exhibit titled Ephemeral Utopia by Bridgeport’s URSA Gallery. On view Tuesdays - Sundays, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Garden open from dusk to dawn.
Romeo and Juliet – The Choice at SHU Community Theatre, Fairfield
Friday, April 8 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 pm
WSHU Public Radio brings to the stage, a live performance of solo piano and dance with internationally acclaimed pianist Frederic Chiu and choreographer Sandra Shih Parks. An innovative and immersive performance of solo piano and dance, this production is a reimagining of Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet with a unique twist: the audience will vote on the ending.
Versofest 2022 at The Westport Library

A first-of-its-kind, immersive three-day festival and conference, providing creatives, artists, and fans with the opportunity to explore music and media in an intimate and unique environment. The performances include Lez Zeppelin on Friday, Chris Frantz’s “Daniprobably” on Saturday, and the highly acclaimed, groundbreaking young blues visionary Selwyn Birchwood on Sunday.

Broadway’s Golden Age comes to life in a fabulous tribute to the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Let’s Go Fly a Kite! at Greenwich Point Park Beach

Hosted in partnership with Greenwich Arts Council and Greenwich Parks & Recreation, this event will delight kids of all ages. Bring your own kite, wear a mask, and find space along the beach! Rain Date is Sunday, April 10th.
Music for Youth Young Persons Concert featuring ARKAI at Pequot Library, Southport
Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 pm
This dynamic duo will present classical and original works for the violin and cello, channeling the diversity of the world through genre-bending music and forging new possibilities for violin and cello. Winners of the 2021 Astral Artists National Auditions, ARKAI’s past engagements have included performances at The MET Breuer, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the 92nd Street Y. Registration is required.
The Stamford Symphony Presents “Zukerman Plays Bruch” at Stamford Palace Theater

The incomparable Pinchas Zukerman returns to play the ever-popular Bruch violin concerto, in recognition of the retirement of Symphony board chairman, Alan McIntyre with a performance of Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony, Alan’s homeland. Program includes: Rick Robinson - Gitcha Groove On!; Bruch - Violin Concerto No. 1 Pinchas Zukerman, violin; Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 3 Scottish Symphony.

“Coming of Age” Opening Exhibit Reception at Ridgefield Guild of Art

Enjoy a reception fo an invitational show that features men and women over the age of 60 who are alive in their work, vital in their practice, and communicating through their creativity. Although age is the unifying factor, the art itself is not about aging. Instead, this exhibit celebrates a wide array of mediums and subject matter and what ties the show to the subject are the words that hang next to the work, describing the experiences from artists “of a certain age.” On view through May 8th.
Black Violin – Impossible Tour at The Ridgefield Playhouse

This duo combines an array of musical styles and influences to produce a signature sound they call “classical boom.” With influences ranging from Shostakovich and Bach to Nas and Jay-Z, Black Violin breaks the rules, blending classical, hip-hop, jazz, rock, R&B, and bluegrass. These classically trained violinists and their DJ use their music to overcome stereotypes and encourage people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds to break down cultural barriers.
Ukulele Musician Jake Shimabukuro at SHU Community Theatre, Fairfield

Exploring a seemingly limitless repertoire of jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, folk and classical genres on an unlikely instrument: the ‘ukulele, this Hawai’i-born virtuoso has taken the ‘ukulele to points previously thought impossible. Shimabukuro reinvents the applications for an often underappreciated four-string instrument and has been called “the Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele.”
