Wilton residents will receive the first half of their real estate tax bill and their property tax bills after they are mailed on June 26, 2024. The second half of the real estate tax will be billed in January. Payments will be accepted by the Tax Collector’s office between July 1 and August 1. The office cannot accept payments before July 1, as that day marks the start of the new fiscal year. Payments received after August 1, or that are postmarked after that date, will incur a penalty fee of 18% interest per year, with a minimum interest charge of $2. All checks mailed on August 1 must be postmarked with an official US Post Office postmark with that date in order to qualify as being on time.
Starting Monday, July 1, payments may be made online by following this link: https://www.wiltonct.org/tax-collector
If taxpayers pay through their bank account (ACH), a $1.95 per transaction fee will be added to their totals. This means that if real estate and property taxes are paid at the same time, there will only be one charge for the service fee. Separate tax bills paid at separate times will each incur the $1.95 fee. The fees for using a debit and/or credit card are 2.95% or a minimum of $2.95.
Wilton taxpayers are strongly encouraged to closely examine their tax bill as soon as it’s received and pay their bill as soon as possible after July 1. As August 1 draws near, phone lines, voicemail, email inboxes, and lines at Town Hall grow extremely full. It becomes increasingly difficult for Tax Department staff to answer questions or address unforeseen problems the closer we get to the deadline. With the construction of the new Police Headquarters, parking is also constricted this year, making trips to the Tax Office a little more complicated than in years past. Again, please plan accordingly.
