A Descriptive Study of Gesture Use Among Adolescents with Autism
This presentation explores gesture use among four Bengali-speaking adolescents with autism, including bilingual and monolingual participants. Findings reveal varied patterns of gesture use across participants.
Practical implications highlight recognizing gestures as meaningful communication, honoring home languages, partnering with families, and supporting multimodal communication through speech, gestures, pictures, signs, and AAC.
This session is free and intended for COE students, faculty, staff, and interested individuals. This event also satisfies the Research Experience Requirement (RER) for EEX 2091 or EEX 4070 and Master’s Community of Learners (CoL) engagement.
