Accident Involving Police cruiser

The Redding Police Department Press Release 

Date of Incident: July 13, 2012 

Location of Incident: RT 53 south of Weston Town Line 

Incident Type: MVA Evading/Assault on Police Officer 

Summary: 

Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to Route 53 south of the Weston Town Line to assist Weston Police Officers with what was reported as two evading motor vehicle crashes. Upon arrival, Redding Police Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The suspect then backed his vehicle into one of the Redding Police cruisers (with the police officer inside) causing significant front end damage. 

Redding Police Officers then attempted to take the suspect into custody. In the process, this suspect punched out a side window of another Redding Police cruiser. After a short foot chase, during which time the suspect resisted officers, the suspect eventually was subdued by the use of a Taser. 

The suspect was taken into custody and is in the custody of the Weston Police Department. 

The Redding Police Officer, although shaken up, was not injured.
