A display of Edward Marshall Boehm porcelain sculpture is currently being hosted by the Mark Twain Library in Redding, CT through April 14. “The Art of Charming: Boehm Porcelain,” features more than 60 pieces of Edward Marshall Boehm fine porcelain sculptures. The selected works of art are being made available from the private collection of KT Carter.
“Boehm Porcelain is considered by experts to be the finest in handmade American art sculpture of birds, flowers, and wild animals,” says Ms. Carter.
Boehm’s works are displayed throughout the world in places such as the White House, the John F. Kennedy Center, Buckingham Palace, the Tokyo National Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to name just a few.
In 1992, a wing of the Vatican Museum in Rome was named in memory of Edward Marshall Boehm. The honor was historic since this was the first time in its 500 year history that a part of the Vatican was named for an American, and for a person not of royalty, the church, or a church family.
Ms. Carter’s admiration of Beohm’s interest in both education and animal conservation, as expressed in his sculpture, led Ms. Carter to collect his pieces. In particular, Boehm’s early smaller sculptures, many intended to introduce children to wildlife, spoke to her personal interest.
Ms. Carter’s shared aspiration, to educate young people to the fascinating antics of wildlife, takes form in her wildlife photography. Ms. Carter’s photo display, “Birds in Winter,” is also on display at the same location.
