Police Log 8/26 - 9/3: DWI, Heart Attack, Motor Vehicle Accident, More

On 8/28 at 4:34am, Officer Peterson responded to an accident on Route 53. A Chevy Malibu had gone off the side of the road after crossing the double yellow line. The vehicle struck a no parking sign, hit a stone wall, rolled onto its side, then became wedged between a utility pole and a tree before striking a smaller tree with its roof. The operator, Skylar Schoppenhauer, 19 of Prospect, stated that she was tired, and was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The case is currently under investigation.

On 8/30 at 4:17pm, Officer O'Connor was doing a routine patrol near Redding Elementary School when he found a female on the ground who had just suffered a heart attack. She was unresponsice and not breathing. CPR was started almost immediately, as was the use of a defibrillator. Other officers arrived at the scene and CPR was continued until and ambulance arrived to transport the woman to Danbury Hospital.

Side note: Redding Police Department's newly approved budget included funds to replace older defibrillators, which was accomplished last week.

On 8/30 at 4:35pm, Officer Salifa responded to a public disturbance on Church Hill Road. Two Redding residents were charged with creating a public disturbance: Diamantaio Rodrigues, 55, and Allen gregory, 63. The argument stemmed from an argument and minor altercation over livestock owned by Rodrigues. 

On 8/30 at 6:11pm, Officer Livingston stopped a vehicle for following too closely. He discovered that the operator, Renato Caldeira, 52 of Danbury, was driving with a suspended license. He was charged with operating under suspension and following too closely. He is scheduled to appear in court 9/11.

On 8/31 at 12:48pm, Officer Brennan responded to a road rage incident on Newtown Turnpike. between a bicyclist and vehicle. Words were exchanged between the two parties as well as physical contact. The incident is still under investigation.

On 8/31 at 1:28am, Officer McManus observed a vehicle coming out of Brookside Road onto 107 at a very slow rate of speed (abt. 20 mph). McManus pulled the vehicle over and the operator, Steven Scribner, 50 of Weston, failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He was charged with failure to drive right and DWI. Scribner was released on $60 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on 9/13.

On 9/1 at 12:00am, Officer McManus responded to a call from a homeowner on Sherman Turnpike claiming that there were youths trespassing on her property. McManus located two 17 year old Redding males. One was charged one with criminal trespass, the other with criminal trespass, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
