The Many Fates of Plastic Debris in the Ocean

In just six decades, plastic has become one of the most common forms of marine debris and a growing threat to ocean health. While its durability and versatility have made plastic an essential part of modern life, these same qualities allow plastic waste to persist and become deeply integrated into marine environments. This informative lecture explores what happens to plastic once it enters the ocean. How does the marine environment respond? How do scientists track and measure the breakdown of plastic polymers? And how can research findings be effectively communicated to policymakers and the public?
