Bagels Over Berlin: Honor, Valor, and the Jewish Airmen of WWII
In the 1930s, American Jews faced a dual threat: the rising tide of Nazism abroad and pervasive anti-Semitism and isolationism at home.
Yet, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, they volunteered in record numbers to prove their patriotism and strike back against tyranny. This program features a screening of the acclaimed documentary Bagels Over Berlin, followed by a discussion with the film’s director. Through powerful first-person accounts, discover the stories of 15 Jewish airmen who defied the hateful stereotypes of the era to fly daylight bombing missions over Nazi Germany, facing a staggering 70% mortality rate. Many of these brave veterans spent their later years as residents of Boca Raton, making this a deeply local story of global significance. Join us to honor their voices and explore a gripping chapter of the "Greatest Generation" that is too often overlooked. A discussion will follow. This event is also available virtually.
