Voices from Ancient Ground: A Concert of World Choral Music
Some music belongs to a place the way a river belongs to its valley.
Under the direction of Stacie Lee Rossow, DMA, VOCALIS traces that idea across continents and centuries, asking what it means to sing not just about a place, but from one. Folk lament, ancient myth, Indigenous water teachings, and the wind-scraped geology of the North Atlantic share the stage with movements from composer David Rossow’s “Missa Illumina,” whose Latin text offers moments of stillness between each world the ensemble enters. At the program’s heart, voices in the Squamish language remind us whose songs have always lived in this ground. Tickets $10.
