Seminar: PBD Dramawise: Provenance
In the early 1900s, an artist paints a sensual and mysterious portrait of a young housekeeper. A German-Jewish collector purchases the painting, but it is stolen by the Nazis while she flees for her life.
The journey to recover the painting is a long, mysterious journey of discovery by the stakeholders’ children and grandchildren. Provenance is a beautiful story by Jennifer Maisel of self-reflection and integrity. Gary Cadwallader leads an interactive classroom discussion about stolen art and the race against time to reunite Jewish families with their rightful legacy. Participants receive a copy of the play prior to class, and a comprehensive, informative PBD Dramaguide written specifically for this class. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of the play and its examination of justice and honor, and the power of art.
