A Deep Dive Into Bizet’s Carmen
Carmen is one of the most popular operas in the world. So, it might surprise you to learn that it was a disastrous flop at its premiere in Paris.
The composer, Georges Bizet, was so crushed by the failure that he fell into a great depression and died at the age of 36. He never lived to see the smashing success that his work would become. Carmen contains some of the most familiar music in opera: The Toreador Song; Carmen's Habanera & Seguidilla and much more. It is a story of passion, sexuality' obsession, and betrayal. We will explore this enduring masterpiece through numerous recordings and video clips. Live In-Person with Video Catch-up. Available 2-3 business days after the live lecture.
